ONLINE PRIVACY & SECURITY

Local 697 Federal Credit Union, your member-owned financial institution, is committed to providing you with competitive products and services to meet your financial needs and help reach your goals. We are equally committed to protecting the privacy of our members. Under federal law, we are required to give you this privacy notice. It describes our credit union’s privacy policy and practices concerning the personal information we collect and disclose about our members. It also includes information about the parties who receive personal and sometimes nonpublic information from us as we conduct the business of the credit union.

USA PATRIOT ACT

To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify, and record information that identifies each person who opens an account. This means that when you open an account we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We may also ask to see your driver’s license or other identifying documents.

Online Privacy of Children’s Information. 

The Credit Union will not collect, use or disclose online information received from children under the age of 13 without prior parental notification and consent, which will include an opportunity for the parent to prevent the use of information and participation in the activity. Online information will only be used to respond directly to the child’s request and will not be used for other purposes without prior parental consent.
  

  • The Credit Union will not distribute to third parties, other than its affiliate, personally identifiable information without prior parental consent.
     

  • The Credit Union will not post or otherwise distribute personally identifiable information without prior parental consent.
     

  • The Credit Union will not entice by the prospect of a special game, prize or other activity, to divulge more information than is needed to participate in the activity.
     

  • Personally identifiable information that is collected online from their children may be reviewed by a parent or guardian upon written request. The parent or guardian has the right to have information deleted and instruct the Credit Union to cease collecting further information from their child. 




INTERNET COOKIES

To provide better service and a more effective website, the Credit Union may use cookies as part of our interaction with your internet browser. A cookie is a small file that is placed on the user's computer. While it contains no member information, it identifies the member's computer and allows the Credit Union to measure usage of the website and customize the website experience. 

We may use cookies in places where you may need to register, such as online banking, or where you are able to customize the information you see. Recording a cookie at such points makes your online experience easier and more personalized. We may also use cookies to identify what sections of our site our members visit most so we can continue to provide information on the products and services in which our members have demonstrated an interest. These cookies do not collect personally identifiable information and we do not combine information collected through cookies with other personal information to determine who you are or your email address. By configuring your preferences or options in your internet browser, you can control if and how a cookie will be accepted. 


THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES

Local 697 hosts several links to third-party vendors on their website in hopes of providing quick and easy access to information related to your financial needs. Please keep in mind the following statements when accessing third-party vendors:

  • The member is leaving the credit union’s website.

  • The member is linking to an alternate website not operated by the credit union.

  • The credit union is not responsible for the content of the alternate website.

  • The credit union does not represent either the third party or the member if the two enter into a transaction.

  • Privacy and security policies may differ from those practices by the credit union.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT ABOUT YOU

Personal information means personally identifiable information such as information you provide via forms, surveys, applications, or other online fields including name, postal or email addresses, telephone, fax or mobile numbers, or account numbers.

We may disclose all the information we collect, as described, as permitted by law. We will never ask for confidential information, including requests that you provide electronic banking credentials, in an unsolicited email or phone call.



PARTIES WHO RECEIVE INFORMATION FROM US

We may disclose nonpublic personal information about you to the following types of third parties:

  • Financial service providers, such as insurance companies and contracted underwriters.

  • Non-financial companies, such as consumer reporting agencies, data processors, check/share draft printers, financial statement publishers/printers, plastic card processors and government agencies.


DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION TO PARTIES THAT PROVIDE SERVICES TO US

In order for us to conduct the business of the credit union, we may disclose all the information we collect, as described above, to nonaffiliated third parties for the purposes of processing and servicing transactions that you request or authorize.

We may also disclose nonpublic personal information about you under circumstances permitted or required by law. These disclosures typically include information to process transactions on your behalf, conduct operations of our credit union, follow your instructions as you authorize, or to protect the security of our financial records.

To protect our members’ privacy, we only work with companies that agree to maintain strong confidentiality protections and limit the use of the information we provide. We do not permit these companies to sell the information we provide to other third parties.


MEMBERS’ RIGHT TO "OPT-OUT". 

Privacy regulations allow members to "opt-out" of having their information disclosed to non-affiliated third parties in certain situations. Before the Credit Union discloses any member information to a non-affiliated third party that is not otherwise covered by a disclosure exception in the regulation, the Credit Union will properly inform members of their right to "opt-out" and to record and honor "opt-out" requests. The opt-out notice shall include the address and toll-free phone number of the appropriate notification system used for processing notices of opt-out and will be presented in a format acceptable to the National Credit Union Administration/Federal Trade Commission.
